The France-Korea Seminar on Fintech was organized on Monday, May 30th, as part of the France-Korea Year celebrating the 130 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries. This seminar was part of the French Tech Days, the first French Tech event following the launch of the French Tech Hub Seoul.
High-profile French and Korean Fintech players shared their experience and paved the way toward enhanced cooperation in this innovative sector, bringing together financial services and IT technology.
Flagship French companies shared the story of their presence in Korea, such as Thales, Oberthur, as well as financial groups like BNP Paribas Cardif and AXA. On the Korean side, Samsung gave some insights on the development of its payment system Samsung Pay, Kakao told us about their innovative payments, and Korean financial groups Hana and Shinhan tackled their modernization strategy through Fintech.
A high-level institutional dialogue took place between the Chairman of the Financial Services Commission and a representative from Banque de France, the French central bank.
The seminar was followed by a demo-day, where Fintech companies exhibited their products and technologies.
Fintech is one of the main pillars of the French-Korean cooperation effort in the field of digital technology and startup, vowed by the two Heads of State during their summit in November 2015. The modernization of the financial sector through Fintech is at the core of Korea’s reform policy, while France is internationally recognized in this field for its expertise and experience.
